A hand-built timber home stacked three stories up a wooded slope above Lake Santeetlah, with approximately 100 feet of lake frontage, a private dock, and the Snowbird Mountains across the water.
You reach the front door by crossing a bridge over a waterfall. A copper-roofed porch, aged to green, leads into a slate foyer, and from there the house opens south through walls of glass to the lake. Hand-hewn log posts carry a vaulted open-truss ceiling, and wide-plank hickory runs underfoot.
Lake Santeetlah sits inside the Nantahala National Forest, which means the view from the deck is trees and water and not much else. Travel + Leisure ranked it third among the most beautiful lakes in the United States in its September 2020 issue.

The Home
A walk through the home, from the entry bridge to the dock.
A log pergola over stacked stone marks the entry. The bridge crosses the waterfall here, and the copper-roofed porch and slate foyer are just beyond the door.
The main floor is one open room under a vaulted timber-truss ceiling on hand-hewn log posts. A native stone wood-burning fireplace serves both this room and the deck outside. Built-ins, craftsman trim, and oversized windows and doors carry through the whole floor.
The dining table sits between the kitchen and three sets of French doors to the deck. Every seat faces the water.
Oak cabinetry, Brazilian Ubatuba granite, a gas range, and an island with bar seating, all open to the great room and the lake light.
Off the great room, a large deck cantilevers into the trees over the water. A native Cherokee stacked-stone fireplace makes it a second living room for most of the year.
The entire second floor is the primary suite: a large bedroom with a sitting area and fireplace, a private study, and the primary bath. French doors open to a private balcony over the lake, and the windows on the far side look onto the waterfall.
Stairs run from the lower level past a lawn and fire pit to the private dock. The water here is open to fishing, sailing, waterskiing, paddle boards, and kayaks, and the sunsets come to you.
Enter on the First Floor and be greeted by spectacular views. The whole second floor is the master suite with an attached bunk room. The lowest level has two guest rooms, a full bath, laundry, and beverage and snack closet right before you hit the path to the lake. Select any plan to expand it.

Two guest rooms and a full bath are located in the basement, with access out toward the lake path.

The Neighborhood
4 Lakeside Trail sits in the Santeetlah Lakeside community north of Robbinsville in Graham County, about five miles up US 129 from town. Lake Santeetlah covers roughly 2,800 acres with 76 miles of shoreline, and about 80 percent of that shoreline belongs to the Nantahala National Forest, so most of it will stay wooded.
Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest and its old-growth poplars are a short drive around the lake. The Cheoah River, the Tail of the Dragon on US 129, and the Cherohala Skyway are all close for whitewater, driving, and hiking days.
Robbinsville has groceries and essentials. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Fontana Lake are within an hour, and Knoxville and Asheville are each roughly two hours by car.
